PULP+WIRE NOMINATED FOR BEST SCHOOL/UNIVERSITY WEBSITE IN THE 17th ANNUAL WEBBY AWARDS

Portland, Maine — April 9th, 2013 – Pulp+Wire announced today that it has been nominated for Best School/University Website in the 17th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. The IADAS, which nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners, is comprised of web industry experts, including media mogul Arianna Huffington, Skype CEO Tony Bates, Mozilla CEO and Chair Mitchell Baker, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, mobile-phone inventor Martin Cooper, and StumbleUpon founder Garrett Camp.

The Salt Institute (salt.edu) is a non-profit school in Portland, Maine offering semester-long intensive programs in documentary writing, radio, photography and multimedia with a focus on powerful and responsible storytelling. The new website which was debuted in late 2012 highlights the storytelling aspects of the institute, and is meant to entice new students as well as be a homing base for alumni to re-connect.

“Nominees like Pulp+Wire are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 11,000 entries we received this year.”

As a nominee, Pulp+Wire is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 and honored at a star-studded ceremony on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Cipriani on Wall Street in New York City, where they will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches. Highlights from last year’s 5-Word Speeches include: Pinterest: “Pinterest loves you Ryan Gosling”; Bjork: “A.E.I.O.U”; and Holocaust survivor Tibor Sands for The United States Holocaust Museum  “Thank you for remembering me.”

The Salt Institute
is a non-profit school in Portland, Maine offering semester-long intensive programs in documentary writing, radio, photography and multimedia with a focus on powerful and responsible storytelling. Graduate and undergraduate students come from all over the US and other countries for fifteen weeks of intensive field research, workshops and seminars. Throughout the semester, students gather cultural materials and develop their craft to create documentaries of professional caliber.
